As we reported last week, for nearly 20 years, the NRA has fought tirelessly to oppose any United Nations effort to undermine the constitutional rights of law-abiding American gun owners. That fight has grown more intense lately, as the U.N. and global gun banners have markedly stepped up their attack on our Second Amendment freedoms by including civilian arms in the proposed Arms Trade Treaty.

Congressmen urge the UN to trample the US Constitution
Today begins the most important 26-day period for our Second Amendment freedoms in recent history. That’s because today, representatives from many of the world’s socialist, tyrannical and dictatorial regimes will gather at United Nations headquarters in New York for a month-long meeting, in which they’ll put the finishing touches on an international Arms Trade Treaty that could seriously restrict your freedom to own, purchase and carry a firearm.

"UN Gun Grabbers Hard at Work Against Your Gun Rights"
"UN bureaucrats are hard at work plotting to take away your gun rights.
The UN Arms Trade Treaty, which is in the final stages of being drafted, is a backdoor attempt by the Obama administration to impose radical gun control on America citizens.
What can U.S. gun owners expect from the treaty? For starters, the treaty could:
* Require the registration and licensure of American firearms;
* Ban large categories of firearms;
* Require the mandatory destruction of surplus ammo and confiscated firearms;
* Define manufacturing so broadly that any gun owner who adds an accessory such as a scope or changes a stock on a firearm would be required to obtain a manufacturing license, and;
* Require "microstamping" of ammunition.
What's more, the treaty could also be self-executing, meaning it would achieve its anti-gun objectives whether or not implementing legislation was passed by Congress.
The battle is heating up, and the media are starting to take notice.
Please watch this video!"
When you watch this (see link below) - you should be able to "skip the ad"...
"U.N. Arms Trade Treaty = They want YOUR guns!"
"Negotiations on the treaty will continue through the summer, a time when many Americans are not necessarily focused on politics. But we can't let up the pressure fighting this backdoor gun ban attempt by Obama, Hillary Clinton, and international gun grabbers. Right now we need 34 courageous Republican senators to step up and demand that Hillary not sign the treaty, and indicate their intention to vote against its ratification if it is submitted. Only such an action can stop this treachery in its tracks.

Gun Owners of America
ALERT FROM GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA!
Senate Scheduled to Vote on anti-Free Speech Bill on Monday
-- DISCLOSE Act Moving Again
Anti-gun Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (NV) really does not want gun owners' voices to be heard in Washington, D.C.
Anti-gun Democrat leaders have scheduled a vote for Monday, July 16, on the so-called DISCLOSE Act.
You may recall that the DISCLOSE Act passed the House in 2010 but died in the Senate after an intense lobbying effort by Gun Owners of America and other groups. The bill coming to the floor on Monday, S. 3369, sponsored by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, puts severe and unconstitutional limits on GOA's ability to hold individual congressmen accountable in the months leading up to an election.
Instead of protecting the most important type of speech protected by the First Amendment -- political speech -- this bill would force groups like GOA to "disclose" the names of donors in certain political advertisements.
Since Gun Owners of America is not willing to disclose its membership lists to the Federal Election Commission, we could be prohibited from running radio or TV ads exposing a federal candidate's voting record during the election season.
This is just another attempt by pathetic, anti-gun politicians like Harry Reid to save their jobs before the political earthquake in November strikes. Indeed, if GOA candidates are victorious in Senate races in November, Harry Reid will no longer be the Majority Leader.
And, as has been the case so often with Reid, there have been no committee hearings to debate the merits of the bill, thus the American people have no opportunity to see just how egregiously DISCLOSE violates the Constitution. In fact, the bill was introduced less than a week ago. Please urge your Senators to protect ALL of the Bill of Rights. Remind them that your ability to protect the Second Amendment relies on the safeguards of the First Amendment.
ACTION: Contact your Senators and urge them to oppose the DISCLOSE Act. You can use the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center to send your Senators a pre-written e-mail message.
Just click on underlined to email your message.
Thank You!"
Last Edit: 10 months, 1 week ago by Maggie. Reason: I wanted to put the bill number and who sponsored it in 'bold'.
"It will make the world more secure by tamping down on weapons commonly used by gangs and terrorists."
I submit that the gangs and terrorists we need to be concerned about are governments and leftists and they won't be affected by this in any way. Who would be affected would be those liberty lovers trying to defend themselves against these gangs and terrorists.
It appears likely that Hillary Clinton will sign the U. N. Arms Treaty upon its completion which is estimated to be late next week. Currently, it is unknown whether the final document will encompass civilian arm sales, or not. If it does, we have a problem.
As Dick Morris points out, any treaty that the Secretary of State signs, immediately becomes the law-of-the-land: “In the absence of Senate disapproval or a renunciation by the president, the United States is bound by the Treaty under the provisions of the Vienna Convention which we have both signed and ratified.”
Therefore, it is imperative that Clinton not sign-on. Please contact the following people with your opinion, or use the ones provided.

Madam Secretary, I urge you to NOT sign any U.N. Arms Treaty that might govern the sale, transference, ownership, or use of civilian arms. An international treaty must not be used to usurp our 2nd Amendment rights.

This treaty is not exactly dead. Since, as a result of public pressure, it failed to make it out of committee in July 2012 the U.N. leadership has decided to take a different road in order to disarm us. It has resurrected a 2001 “Programme of Action” instead. A PoA is a set of actions that member states agree to adhere to. That is, they agree to enforce existing national laws that support the recommended actions, and if such laws do not exist, to pass them.
So the U.N. went back to a 2001 PoA called the “Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects” and was able to get a renewed commitment to it from the membership, along with a new “Outcome Document”. While most provisions seem benign and appeal to common sense like ensuring that states clean up after war and pick up war zone guns & ammo, some are more questionable.
For example, paragraph II.9 states:
“To ensure that comprehensive and accurate records are kept for as long as possible on the manufacture, holding and transfer of small arms and light weapons under their jurisdiction. These records should be organized and maintained in such a way as to ensure that accurate information can be promptly retrieved and collated by competent national authorities.“
To me, that sounds a lot like a National Registry. While of course we citizens are not directly subject to these U.N. required actions, our government has committed to passing laws that do implement them. So, we will face a constant barrage of gun control bills, judicial decisions, policy decisions, and Executive Orders leading toward compliance with U.N. rules. We then must report back to the U.N. routinely on our progress toward full compliance.
I wanted to bring this up again for discussion as Dick Morris has stated that Hillary Clinton may sign the treaty on or before Jan. 3. Don't know if this is so but we need to keep our eyes and ears open for this possibility. Please post if there is any news from another source that needs to be heard.
Thanks
Update: The original treaty that was supposedly 'dead' is now resurrected by none other than the USA. . . the day after the election.
On Wednesday November 7, the U.S. Mission to the U.N. made clear its support for renewed Arms Trade Treaty negotiations, casting a vote in favor of resolution A/C.1/67/L.11. The resolution calls for a "Final United Nations Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty" to be held in New York City from March 18-28.
The draft states that "Each State Party shall maintain national records. Such records may contain end users" and that "Records shall be kept for a minimum of ten years." If this obligation were to be enacted and followed, it could result in registration for any American that purchases an imported firearm.
"Each State Party shall establish and maintain a national control system to regulate the export of ammunition for conventional arms."
Over the coming months, the 2A committee will be providing action alerts.
Article 9.1 “Each State Party shall adopt appropriate legislative, administrative or other measures to regulate, where necessary and feasible, conventional arms covered by this Treaty that transit or transship through its territory.”
Article 10.2 “Such records may contain, inter alia, quantity, value, model/type, authorized international transfers of conventional arms under the scope of this Treaty, conventional arms actually transferred, details of exporting State(s), importing State(s), transit and transshipment State(s) and end users, as appropriate. Records shall be kept for a minimum of ten years, or longer if required by other international obligations applicable to the State Party.”
So, to comply with the treaty, Obama can use administrative order to register and track all small arms made in the USA, as well any that are made elsewhere and imported, keep a registry, and list end users.
That is step 1 in disarming the citizenry. No, we need to keep government power in check. We need to maintain a balance of power against our government.
They will be in conference March 18-28, 2013. I’ll bet they have all kinds of sneaky stuff to add to this document. But, it looks like currently, it focuses on registration. I’m sure after some years they’ll say “oh that didn’t work so we’ll have to take guns away” and then they’ll know exactly where to find them.
Since we are getting close to the scheduled March 18 - March 28 conference, the 2A committee is asking that you act preemptively and send a letter of opposition to Sen Casey and Sen Toomey with copies going to Pres Obama, Sec Kerry, and Leader McConnell.
There is a sample letter that you can copy and paste (including addresses) here: www.2a-lvtp.org/doc13/
A United Nations-based drug agency urged the United States government on Tuesday to challenge the legalization of marijuana for recreational use in Colorado and Washington, saying the state laws violate international drug treaties. full article...
This is exactly what we've been talking about regarding the UN Arms Trade Treaty. If it happens, the Federal government has the legal basis to circumvent State powers. A treaty holds the same weight as an Amendment.
No country in the world abides by a treaty if they believe that it is not in their best interest.
Unfortunately I misspoke. No country except the United States under progressive rule. Progressives put the fantasy of world rule ahead of U.S. interests.
You will never get the entire world to agree to a one world government because the power hungry rulers will not give up any of their power to anyone else. It is a fantasy that only the uninformed citizenry could believe in.
Roc said, "No country in the world abides by a treaty if they believe that it is not in their best interest."
The question is, does our country (the government) have the same interests as us (the people) any longer? There is no reason to thinks that most world governments couldn't find a common cause such as gun control or public disarmament. The European countries submitted to the EU for primarily economic reasons. All the World currencies are already linked because anyone that dares operate with a stable monetary system will see their exports dwindle to nothing.

I believe that the judgment of hundreds of millions of individuals is less corruptible than the judgment of thousands of politicians, and certainly less incompetent than any number of bureaucrats.
Here is a video of his view on the UN ATT in which he makes the point that bad players like Iran are crafting the document, but they of course will not honor it. The good players are the only ones who will.
Committee negotiations are in progress, March 18-28. Here's one of the latest news items to come out on what these Globalists are up to.
"As the negotiations and presentations proceed, it becomes evident that many of the articles being drafted (or revised) contain provisions that would require the governments of member nations to track the transfer of weapons and ammunition within their sovereign borders."
On March 23, the US Senate passed a budget (53-46) which included an amendment by Sen. James Inhofe that would prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
While this is a good sign, it by itself doesn't do much since it is unlikely that the Senate budget which it is a part of, is actually going anywhere.
UN Arms Trade Treaty – Final Version March 28, 2013
Review by Tom Campione
A number of changes have been made to the draft document of July 2012 to arrive at this final version. Some changes appear to be for the better, while some make things worse. I note the important items below. However, it is now clear to me that this entire treaty is a complete waste of time, and taxpayer money.
It sets up a national control system that lists specific arms and tracks their import and export. This control system is just another bureaucracy that wastes money by pushing paper with little or no expectation of results. The treaty is aspirational in its approach, yet it includes provisions that require us to provide assistance to other States in setting up their very own bureaucracies, upon their request.
The document is open-ended and in many ways quite vague. Most of all, it provides no compelling reason for us to sign it. In my view, it is further expansion of the Federal government with no benefit to the United States whatsoever. We don’t need a treaty in order to monitor our imports and exports. We should be doing that already.
Positive Changes
Rather than go through positive changes in great detail, I’ll simply say that the previous language that gave the President near dictatorial powers has been mostly stricken and replaced by phrases that reinforce each State party’s right to regulate arms within its borders in accordance with its own national laws and regulations.
Negative Changes
Articles 7. 1.b.i & 7. 1.b.ii jointly state that the Federal government, before authorizing an export, must assess the potential of the arms that are being exported to “commit or facilitate a serious violation of international humanitarian law or human rights law”. This potential is undefined and therefore subject to bureaucratic arbitrary decision which cannot be anticipated by the exporter and is therefore unlawful and inconsistent with U.S. law.
Article 14 requires that we enforce laws and regulations that implement provisions of the treaty, but it is missing one key word “those”. It should say that we would enforce “those” laws and regulations that implement the provisions. Leaving out this word makes the statement ambiguous and legally unclear.
Article 16.1 states that any party may seek assistance, legal, technical, material or financial and that each party (the USA being one) in a position to do so shall provide such assistance. Therefore, by signing this treaty, we are promising with the full faith of the people of the United States of America to provide unlimited assistance to any State party that asks. This is absurd.
Article 16.3 states that a voluntary trust fund shall be set up and that each State party is encouraged to contribute. Nowhere does it say who is responsible for the money contributed or what it may be used for. The potential for fraud is obvious.
Article 20.3 states that amendments can be introduced and are adopted when three-quarters of the parties present, vote affirmative. So, depending on the mix of State parties present, some number of State parties who are unfriendly or hostile toward the USA could in fact cause the adoption of amendments that are detrimental, or possibly harmful to the USA.
